Welcome to the League of Legends Esports Global Power Rankings Hackathon, powered by AWS and Riot Games!

This is your opportunity to use official League of Legends Esports data to create a method for ranking LoL Esports pro teams globally. Will your method be able to predict the next world champion?

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena game by Riot Games where two teams of five players battle in player-versus-player combat. Since its release in 2009, League of Legends has become one of the world's largest esports. Riot Games operates 9 regional leagues internationally with those regions having their own official ranking systems. Take this challenge and make those rankings global!

Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides the tools to do just that. From Machine Learning to Databases, Generative AI, Analytics, and more, AWS has a number of services that can help you build the best method for LoL Esports Global Power Rankings whether you’re a developer, data scientist, or machine learning enthusiast.

Why Join
  • Be part of the developer community surrounding League of Legends Esports

Getting Started

Requirements

What to Build

Build a working method (API, notebook, working web application) for a League of Legends Global Power Ranking system using the esports data provided by Riot Games and at least one AWS service.

The working method must provide the following outputs:

  • Tournament rankings - provide team rankings for a given tournament
  • Global rankings - provide current rankings of all teams globally
  • Team rankings - provide rankings for a given list of teams

What to Submit

  • Access: Provide a public URL to your working method (API, notebook, working web application)
  • Code: Provide a URL to your code repository to show how your project was built.
  • Demo: Include a video (should be about 3 minutes) that demonstrates your submission. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video and made public.
  • Methodology Write Up: Should include a short explanation of the methodology of the ranking system, including any other data sources used, and your findings and learnings as you worked through the project.
  • Tooling: Include an explanation of the AWS services used to build the project.
  • Optional Tagging: The AWS platform enables you to assign custom tags to your resources. A tag is a key-value pair applied to a resource to hold metadata about that resource. Each tag is a label consisting of a key and an optional value. Not all services and resource types currently support tags (see Services that support the Resource Groups Tagging API). We recommend that any infrastructure you launch be tagged with “key: power-rankings-hackathon value: 2023”.
